Some of the last great pockets of forest are now on private land and to stumble upon them is akin to coming upon a hidden treasure. Sometimes I wonder as to how they have survived in our race to make everything productive, to make it pay its way. Part of my practice as a mapmaker is the sense that; I am somehow giving the country back to itself, carrying it away from mans intervention to another time. The question I carry is this; What if a map didn’t simply represent space but really had the power to transform.
